EVENT: What Have We Been Teaching Our Children in a Post 9-11 World?

Many of today’s children have little or no recollection of the enormous tragedy that occurred in lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001. In the immediate aftermath, there was both speculation and discussion about how 9-11 would impact our families, our communities and the world. But did we seize the moment and take the necessary time to fully understand how this horrific event could reorient our values and priorities?

Nathan explored this topic and talked of his personal journey of introspection and action after his firsthand experience of having been in lower Manhattan on 9-11. This life-changing experience served as inspiration for his first book, Prodigal Sons and Material Girls: How Not to Be Your Child’s ATM. Nathan helped attendees think and talk about how this event continues to play out in our lives in many different ways, and how we can be intentional about imparting our values and priorities to our children.
